Care of the meetinghouse - checklist
We want the meeting house to be used and we expect a little wear and tear. But there are a few things we ask, to help keep it in good condition:
Children may use the toys in the toddler room, but must be supervised. Please provide childcare for your event.
It is very important that decorations be free-standing with nothing attached to the walls. Even the thinnest tape leaves unwelcome sticky marks that gather dust. Please do not put any nails in the walls.
Please use care when eating over carpet. Greasy food and red beverages leave stains.
Don't block the fire exits with any equipment or tables
Renters are responsible for making good on damages beyond normal wear and tear.
Room temperature
Heat: The heat control for the whole building is on the north wall of the large upstairs meeting room. Just press the UP arrow to the desired temperature.
Ventilation/Fans: Opening some windows and using fans is more energy efficient than the swamp cooler and it is quieter! The fan controls are on the east wall of the stage.
Swamp cooler: The swamp cooler controls are inside the closet on the stage. Use the timer dial, which is the leftmost control. Dial the number of hours you want the cooler to stay on. There is also an electronic timer box, and a set of cooler switches – but please DON’T operate these. Please leave these switches as they are set.
Clean up checklist
Arrangement: Stack tables, return rugs to place. The chairs do not need to be returned to any particular arrangement.
Dishes: Please wash the dishes downstairs. Soap and dish towels are provided.
Trash: Please take all trash with you. We don’t have any trash collection service. The dumpster nearby is not ours, so please don’t use it! Trash bags are in the kitchen, in a drawer to the right of the refrigerator.
Vacuum: Vacuum the rugs if needed. Vacuum bags are in the meeting room cleaning closet.
Remove any decorations.
Closing-up checklist
Payment: If you are renting the space, leave payment in renter’s box in library.
Unplug all appliances.
Close all windows, and close the curtains on the Fifth Street side.
Turn off all the lights, and the swamp cooler and fans.
Check that everyone is out of the building.
Check that all four doors are closed securely. (Downstairs kitchen door, south door, east door at top of stairs, and main door.)
Lock the main door and check that it is really locked!
Return the key if you borrowed it. You must return it immediately after the event, because another group might need that key on the same day.
Please notify us
…if anything needs replacing, like light bulbs, toilet tissue, or soap for dishwashing.
…if you damage something beyond what may be expected in normal use – for example, spilling a drink on the carpet.
